Scholarship Purpose: From a very early age it was evident that Mary Alice was interested in physical activity of all types, was well-coordinated, and very competitive. When expressing an interest in becoming a physical education teacher, Illinois State University was recommended as the best choice. Upon completing her undergraduate work she taught high school and junior high school and coached softball and field hockey. She continued her own education by earning a master's degree and her Ph.D. in physical education, completing her career as a full professor at The University of Northern Colorado. The purpose of this fund is to offer financial assistance to a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation with preference given to female students majoring in physical education teacher Education. Endowment assets are invested in the Illinois State University Foundation's long-term investment pool.
