Scholarship Purpose: The Jeff and Heidi Bakken Future Special Education Teacher Scholarship was established in 2009 by Jeff and Heidi Bakken to provide students majoring in Special Education with some financial assistance. Jeff began teaching at Illinois State after earning his Ph.D. at Purdue University, has taught at all levels, has received college and university teaching awards, and is chair of the Department of Special Education. Heidi was a stay-at-home mom with Jared and Emma, owned an internet-based business, and is an Assistant to the President of Family Heritage Insurance. Recipients of the scholarship must be a full-time junior or senior majoring in Special Education, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0, submit references, and demonstrate evidence of serving persons with disabilities.
