Anne 'Kiki' Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Purpose: The Anne 'Kiki' Wood Endowed Scholarship was established in 2014 in memory of Kiki Wood by her husband, Dr. Jeffrey A. Wood, Dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a student pursuing an elementary education degree with a reading teacher endorsement. Kiki had a passion for teaching children to read and delighted in teaching children to make emotional connections to academic subjects. She infused agriculture into the curriculum by establishing a school wide Ag Day, linking local producers with eager children and created "farm baskets" for the McLean County Farm Bureau which became a popular addition to the school curriculum throughout Unit 5 and surrounding districts. She was widely known for the popular classes she created and taught many years in the ISU College for Youth. She was especially fond of teaching literature and language by using culture and cooking examples in her classes.

High School GPA: There is no High School GPA requirement for this scholarship.

Essay: An Essay is required towards applying for this scholarship.

Financial Need: This scholarship requires a student to have a Financial Need to be eligible to receive the scholarship. In order to establish "Financial Need", a student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can file the FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

Miscellaneous Information

• Each candidate must also be: 1. Enrolled in good standing at Illinois State University 2. Student teaching the calendar year following scholarship application date 3. Be an elementary education major 4. Completing or currently pursuing a reading teacher endorsement
• Each candidate shall write a 300 word essay describing their career goals, how their education supports those goals, what traits does the candidate have that will enhance his or her education and future employment, and specifically answer the following question: Describe the solutions you would propose to improve or resolve a current issue or problem of your choice in the public school setting.
