Scholarship Purpose: Donna Martin (‘81) and Sarah Reckmeyer (‘82) enjoyed diverse and meaningful experiences as ISU music students. They created these scholarships to help support music education students on their career paths. They each hold Bachelor of Music Education degrees from Illinois State University. While at ISU, Donna studied flute and was active in the band program. Sarah studied organ and clarinet and participated in both choral and band ensembles. Donna & Sarah earned masters’ degrees at The University of Iowa and Northwestern University, respectively. Following graduate work, they were music colleagues in Ottawa for 27 years. Sarah served as the Director of Bands at Ottawa Township High School and Donna held the same position at the Ottawa Elementary Schools. Both received their foundations in Midwestern small-town music programs and appreciated the opportunity to serve as music educators in a rural community. Partners since the early days of their careers, Donna and Sarah were married in 2018. During retirement, both continue to be active musicians in the Illinois Valley area.
