Dorothy Bryan Schemske Scholarship

Scholarship Purpose: The Dorothy Bryan Schemske Scholarship was established in 1998 by Dorothy Bryan Schemske, a 1941 graduate of Illinois State Normal University. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student working toward a career in teaching English, with a preference to a student with an interest in creative writing.

Miscellaneous Information

  • Applicants must be in good standing at Illinois State University

  • Must demonstrate a commitment to the teaching of writing.

  • Must have taken a creative writing class.

  • Applicant should submit a statement of teaching philosophy that foregrounds their interest in the teaching of writing. Statement should be no more than two double-spaced pages.

  • As a follow-up to the competition, award winners are required to send a one-page narrative about themselves to Mrs. Dorothy B Schemske. Address available from the English Department.
