Dr. Marilyn K. Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Purpose: This scholarship was established in 2011 by Marilyn Moore's daughters and their husbands, as a surprise, to honor her for her many contributions to the field of education. Marilyn was born on the Southside of Chicago in 1946 and grew up in a time where there were many social injustices. She believed that it was unfair that opportunities were not the same for minority children, especially in relation to education. This motivated her to become a teacher. In 1989 she became a professor at Illinois State University. She organized Urban Bus Tours which take education majors to urban classrooms throughout Chicago and pair them up with inner-city elementary school students in mentor/mentee relationships. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support for students majoring in elementary education or early childhood education who plan to become teachers for diverse populations.

Financial Need: This scholarship requires a student to have a Financial Need to be eligible to receive the scholarship. In order to establish "Financial Need", a student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can file the FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

Letter of Reference: For this scholarship application 2 letters of reference are required.

Miscellaneous Information

• Applicant must be majoring in early childhood or elementary education student in good standing in the College of Educaiton at Illinois State university
• Recipient must be planning a career in teaching with diverse populations
• Applicant must submit two letters of reference from ISU faculty who have taught the student in his or her major within the last 2 years.
