Scholarship Purpose: The Family and Consumer Sciences Recruitment and Retention Endowed Scholarship was established by Charlotte E. (Peterson) Talkington in August 2014. Dr. Talkington was born in Morris, IL and graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1961. She continued her education and received a Masters of Education from University of Illinois in 1966, and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in 1978. As a longtime friend and dedicated supporter of Illinois State's Family and Consumer Sciences Department, Dr. Talkington created this scholarship to provide opportunity, support and encouragement in the recruitment and retention of Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher Education majors at Illinois State.
