Scholarship Purpose: Iola Stoops Juarez (1920-2006) was born and raised on a farm in Cooksville just 10 miles from Illinois State University. She entered the University as a freshman in 1938, the first in her family to attend college. She was an excellent writer and was a member of the Vidette (college newspaper) and the Index (yearbook) staffs at Illinois State Normal University. The Iola Stoops Juarez Endowed Journalism Scholarship was created to assist in the education of an undergraduate journalism student who works at the Vidette. This student will be selected based on financial need and academic merit.
