Scholarship Purpose: Jannes and Gary Weede were first generation college graduates coming from families of modest means. They had to work their way through all of their earned degrees. Jannes taught for 24 years at Fairview Elementary School in Normal and had the privilege of supervising numerous Illinois State University student teachers during her teaching career. During his teaching career in the Industrial Technology Department at Illinois State, Gary developed a plastics technology program, served as graduate coordinator and taught various manufacturing and graduate courses in Engineering Technology. He retired after 28 years at the University. The Weedes possess a strong desire to provide support to students with financial need in the College of Education at Illinois State University. The purpose of this fund is to assist education majors as they pursue their dreams of becoming teachers.
