Scholarship Purpose: This scholarship was established in 2007 by John Joseph Kennedy. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1961 and received his bachelor of science degree in education, with an English-journalism major. During his time at Illinois State University he held various positions on the school newspaper, the Daily Vidette, and became its editor prior to his graduation. After graduation he relocated to the San Francisco Bay area where he taught high school English, journalism, and social studies. In establishing this scholarship he wished to express his gratitude to the University for the excellent education he received here. Since he was entirely self-supporting while in college, the intent of this scholarship is to assist in making it financially possible for worthy students to attend Illinois State University.
