Para-Professional Pipeline P.U.L.S.E. Fund

Scholarship Purpose: The Wheeler Foundation was moved to establish this scholarship Para-Professionals Unlocking Licensure in Special Education (P.U.L.S.E.) to support the efforts of ISU to address the shortage of educators, specifically Special Education teachers. Through this scholarship, the Wheeler Foundation acknowledges that para-professions are an integral part of developing a pipeline of educators to fill open positions. Students will be supported with their tuition, books, technology, and expenses.

High School GPA: There is no High School GPA requirement for this scholarship.

Essay: An Essay is required towards applying for this scholarship.

Financial Need: This scholarship requires a student to have a Financial Need to be eligible to receive the scholarship. In order to establish "Financial Need", a student must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can file the FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

This scholarship is not open to International Students.

Miscellaneous Information

• o Preference given to students that live/work in the five-county area of Champaign, Ford, Iroquois, Edgar and Vermilion
• o Applicant must have completed their associate degree or have 60 credit hours
• o Applicant must have a minimum of 2 years professional experience employed as a para-professional working with students with disabilities
• o 500-word essay narrative addressing the impact the scholarship would have on their career aspirations and the special education teacher shortage
• o Letter of recommendation from current school administrator where applicant is employed
• o Good academic standing after the first academic year to be eligible for scholarship funds in year two
