Scholarship Purpose: The Sharon and Parker Lawlis Endowed Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences was established in 2013 by Sharon '60 and Parker Lawlis '57, M.S. '61, to provide financial assistance to students majoring in teacher education in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State. Parker was co-captain of the ISNU basketball team in 1956-57. After they married, Parker became alumni director and later director of Placement Services for the University, from which he retired in 1992. He served in leadership roles for the Illinois State University Annuitants Association, Normal Town Council, McLean County Board, and Home Sweet Home Mission Foundation and received the Normal Citizen of the Year and E. Burton Mercier Alumni Association Service awards. Sharon taught home economics, retiring from Chiddix in 1994. She was named Career Woman of the Year by the Bloomington-Normal Professional Women's Organization. They serve as American Red Cross National Disaster volunteers.
